During the school year, Music Lessons & Classes are offered Mondays – Thursdays from 1:30 – 8:30 PM, Fridays from 1:30 -6:30 PM, and Saturday mornings from 8:30 AM-noon.
SUGGESTED BEGINNING AGES FOR MUSIC LESSONS: Violin: 4 years old; Piano: 1st grade; Guitar: 2nd grade; Drums: 2nd grade; Voice class and Viola: 3rd grade; Cello, Bass and Flute: 5th grade; Voice and Saxophone: 6th grade.
PRIVATE LESSONS & SMALL GROUP CLASSES: We offer both private lessons and group classes. Private Lessons offer students one-to-one individualized instruction for 30, 45, or 60 minutes once weekly. Group Classes and Ensembles also meet weekly with their instructor but in a small group of 2-4 students, offering an interactive learning setting.
SCHEDULING: Lessons are offered year-round. The RSM year has 45-47 lessons September through August. Except as otherwise agreed, you will have the same lesson time each week. All scheduling is done through the office. To request a change of lesson time, please speak with someone in our office. Faculty cannot make schedule changes.
LESSONS MISSED BY STUDENTS are not refundable. Teachers will offer a Makeup Class each month for students who have missed lessons. Teachers are paid for their contracted time, even in a student’s absence. When possible, please inform the office in advance of any missed lessons. Students arriving late will not have their lesson time extended. In the event that a teacher must be absent, a substitute will be provided. If a substitute is not available, the lesson will be rescheduled.
ORIENTATION: There is an Orientation scheduled for a portion of the first lesson. During this orientation, parents and students will meet with the instructor to discuss lesson details and expectations. New students are asked to arrive 5 minutes early to be sure necessary paperwork is completed.
EXPECTATIONS: Students are encouraged to arrive at least 5 minutes before their scheduled lesson time. Bring all books, assignments, and materials necessary to be prepared for each lesson. It is also essential for music students to put in the necessary practice time at home. Students who are the most successful are those who complete their weekly practice assignments and arrive at their lesson ready to learn!
BOOKS AND MATERIALS: As a convenience to our students, books and other materials may be purchased through the school. When a student needs a new book, the teachers will inform the office staff and the music will be added to the student’s monthly invoice. You are also welcome to pay for the music by cash or check.
SPECIAL ASSISTANCE TO ENSURE SUCCESS: Should an instructor sense that a student needs additional instruction with class assignments, it may be necessary to schedule additional private lessons to address specific challenges and help the student stay on task. These lessons will be scheduled at the request of the instructor as an addition to the weekly private lesson, and the standard lesson rate will apply.
